A man who was allegedly caught red-handed stealing from JB Stores in Iklin was today remanded in custody after the court heard how he was on bail over other pending cases.

The police arraigned Amadeo Grima, 35, from Birzebbuga, who is unemployed but currently works for the Birkirkara local council under a government scheme for long-term unemployed.

He was caught by policemen on patrol who saw him inside the premises.

He was charged with the robbery, running into thousands of Euro, as well as damaging third party property. He was further accused of relapsing and breaching to bail conditions over separate pending cases. He had been granted bail last April and also in November 2014.

Given his history, Magistrate Audrey Demicoli ruled that he was not trustworthy so he was remanded in custody.

Police Inspectors Fabian Fleri and Christabelle Chetcuti prosecuted while lawyer Joe Ellis was defence counsel.
