An alleged burglar who was caught red-handed by the police was remanded in custody following his arraignment in court in Thursday.

Charlon Abela, 24, from Qormi, was arrested on the roof of a vacant Mosta residence on Wednesday morning after police were alerted to his presence by neighbours at around 3am.

Upon his arrest, the police found gloves and a screwdriver, allegedly linked to the burglary, in the suspect’s possession.

During his arraignment, the man was charged with theft and with having breached earlier bail conditions.

Lawyer Mark Mifsud Cutajar, legal aid, did not file a request for bail at this stage.

Duty magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace remanded the man in custody.

Inspector Maurice Curmi prosecuted.
