Designer and art director Carlo Schembri, together with a skilled team of specialists, came up with this year’s Malta Eurovision Song Contest stage.
The crux of his design, which he describes as “curvy and organic” in concept, allowed for an unprecedented set-up at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.
By removing all the seating from front stalls, the gap between stage and audience was bridged, and the physical proximity between performers and fans enhanced.
The stage design was kept simple: surrounding a slightly elevated circular stage, seven screens, made up of some 60 LED monitors with projected colour-coded graphics synchronised to each of the participants’ songs and acts. The result was effective and visually complementary.
