Sports all-rounder Twanny Buhagiar passed away yesterday, aged 70.

Buhagiar dedicated most of his lifetime to sport. He started playing football when still a young teenager before becoming a coach, a top division waterpolo referee and a respected journalist.

His voice became synonymous with radio listeners after taking up the role of a football pundit and commentator.

Buhagiar was also among the founding members of the Sportswriters' Association way back in the 1970s and also edited his own sports magazine besides contributing in other publications, mainly the Sports Annual.

In January this year, the Maltese Olympic Committee presented Buhagiar with a special memento in recognition of his sterling work and contribution to local sport.
