A 39-year-old Algerian who lives in Bugibba was today jailed for 30 months after he was found guilty of helping two irregular immigrants obtain false documents to leave Malta in 2007.

Handing down judgement, Magistrate Giovanni Grixti said that although the accused, Djalili Douib, had a clean police record his was crime the consequences of which were felt on human life.

The magistrate said that the actual transportation of migrants and the trafficking operations were two separate serious crimes which should remain so.
