In his letter False Prophet (December 10), Edgar Gatt, a former Farsons employee, reminded us that in the run-up to the EU referendum campaign Alfred Sant had warned the Farsons employees that, should Malta join the EU, their jobs would be at stake. Recently, Dr Sant visited the mentioned company which shall, in the coming days, be investing Lm10.5 million in a new production centre.

Mr Gatt's letter reminds me of another occasion when, in the run-up to the EU referendum, Dr Sant had listed HSBC among his list of doomed companies. Today, HSBC has invested in a new call centre creating no fewer than 350 new jobs and another new services centre in Gozo with an additional 50 new jobs for Gozitans in Gozo.

I wonder what Dr Sant will say to the HSBC staff when he visits them next time round?
