Alec Mizzi has been appointed chairman of the Midi Group following the demise of its founder and his father, Albert Mizzi, on September 10.

The late Mr Mizzi was the vision behind the group, founded in 1992, which was granted a government concession to develop 44 hectares at Tigné Point and Manoel Island. Midi recently reported an interim loss before tax of €637,000 but this was expected to be reversed before the year end, once the income from the sale of its Q1 apartments is registered.

Alec Mizzi graduated as Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 1979 and Master of Laws from the University of London in 1980, in which year he joined Alf Mizzi and Sons Group.

He has occupied the post of managing director of Alf Mizzi and Sons (Marketing) Ltd. since 1986 and was appointed its CEO in 1993.

He is a non-executive director of a number of Alf. Mizzi & Sons subsidiary and associated companies and holds the post of chairman in Tigné Mall Ltd and in Solutions and Infrastructure Services Ltd.

Dr Mizzi had also been appointed by the government as non-executive chairman of Malta Enterprise Corporation and Malta Industrial Parks Ltd, as well as director of Water Services Corp, Malta External Trade Corp, Malta Venture Capital plc and Grand Harbour Rehabilitation Project.

He has served as director of HSBC Fund Management Ltd and is a director of, among others, First Gemini plc and EC Holdings Ltd.

Meanwhile, Alan Mizzi was appointed as a non-executive director.
