Alcatel-Lucent's FP2 silicon technology, the industry's first 100 Gb/s IP routing network processor and traffic manager, has won an IEC InfoVision Award in the metro network technologies and services category.

Officially unveiled in March of this year, the FP2 silicon represents a generational leap in silicon technology and enables a significant increase in routing performance.

The International Engineering Consortium's (IEC) InfoVision Awards honour innovations that help advance the information and communications technologies (ICT) industry.

Alcatel-Lucent's FP2 silicon was selected by a panel of industry experts based on criteria spanning overall quality of innovation and contribution to technology advancement, originality and vision, and potential contribution towards positive industry growth.

FP2 silicon technology is highly innovative and represents a significant technology breakthrough, by delivering 100 Gb/s of high performance routing, IP/MPLS, traffic management and high touch services in a single packet processing complex, which and can sustain line rate forwarding with all services enabled.

The FP2 silicon is fully programmable, consumes only 0.6 watts of power per gigabit and delivers 64,000 service queues with massive service depth and scale.

Consequently, the FP2 silicon enables significant improvements in user quality of experience and support for emerging applications in business, residential and mobile network environments.

It enables service providers to meet the rapidly evolving needs of next generation, multiservice networks and provides a future-ready foundation for building next generation IP networks, Alcatel-Lucent concluded.
