An 18-year-old Albanian man was handed down a suspended sentence after admitting to entering the island using a fake Cypriot residence permit card.

Basrit Bruka was charged with having forged, altered or tampered with a Cypriot residence permit card under the name of Michail Antoniou or having in his possession such a document.

The court sentenced him to a six-month jail term suspended to two years. He will be deported to Albania.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale warned him that if he wished to come to Malta, he should have done so legally. The accused was informed that in view of his actions, the law forbade him from visiting any other Schengen country over the span of five years.

Inspector Mario Haber prosecuted.
