The closure of airspace in parts of Europe is affecting the transport of mail by air, Maltapost said.

It said this is impacting mail to or from Malta via main European airports where very limited international air services operated since April 15.

MaltaPost said it is exploring and utilising all options possible, including trucking options for any alternative routes to affected destinations, for as long as the situation continues.

Outgoing mail is being processed normally and dispatched to the airport, in order for it to start its outbound journey as soon as alternative routes become available, or flights resume.

MaltaPost is continuing to deploy and review its contingency plans with the collaboration of various airlines, trucking services and foreign postal administrations, to keep as much of the customers' mail moving and delivered in the shortest time possible, it said.
