Malta International Airport has entered into a strategic partnership with global air transport IT specialist, SITA.

The partnership, which comes into effect on July 1, is geared towards boosting the airport’s operational excellence to put it at the forefront of technology in the aviation industry.

It will allow MIA to focus on strategic investment and innovation, as SITA takes over the airport’s day-to-day ICT operations.

SITA is no stranger to Malta, having served as Air Malta's supplier of IT services since 2006. Its current contract with the national carrier runs until 2018

"It is no coincidence that this partnership precedes the first phase of a hefty investment in the airport’s terminal.

"In the aviation sector, investment in airport infrastructure and ICT is being hailed as the way forward to creating future-proof airports that can adequately handle growth and the additional challenges this brings with it," CEO Alan Borg said.
