Airlines are starting more than 120 new services from UK airports this summer.

Airline Jet2.com is launching 24 new services while Manchester leads the airports by starting 16 new routes, according to figures from aviation analysis company anna.aero.

Ryanair has 19 new routes from UK airports this summer and the Irish no-frills carrier leads the way worldwide with more than 100 new services starting from its various UK and European bases.

Among the new routes being started by British Airways are Buenos Aires, San Diego and Marrakech, while American carrier Delta is beginning Heathrow flights to Boston and Miami.

A new airline to the UK is Swiss carrier SkyWorks Airlines which is commencing daily flights between London City Airport and Bern.

The new routes from the UK include 25 to Spain, with nine of them being operated by Ryanair, and 11 to France.

After Manchester, the UK airport with the most new routes is Gatwick, with 15, followed by Heathrow with 12.

Worldwide, airlines are operating more than 800 new routes this summer season. The number of seats being offered on flights leaving Europe at the moment is 19.36 million - a 2.6 per cent rise on the same period last year.

The sector with the biggest increase for summer 2011 compared with summer 2010 is Asia, where the number of seats on offer has gone up 10.5 per cent.
