A newly married couple took their love to the skies on a romantic Air Malta flight that followed a heart-shaped path around the Maltese islands.

Air Malta Captain Charles Borg Giuliano married his cabin crew girlfriend, Julia Lynne Saliba, on Tuesday evening – exactly 14 months after he proposed on a special flight for couples that Malta’s national airline had organised on Valentine’s Day.

The whole evening revolved around the couple’s love of aviation, starting with a civil wedding ceremony at Malta International Airport. Together with their families, relatives and colleagues, the bride and groom took to the skies to celebrate their wedding on a romantic Air Malta flight chartered and paid for by the couple.

The unusual route – in the shape of two hearts – puzzled aviation enthusiasts everywhere. Flightradar24.com, an air traffic tracking site, saw the Air Malta KM14JC forming two giant hearts and dubbed it the ‘Love Flight’.

The couple will get married in church next weekend. Captain Borg Giuliano was co-piloting the Air Malta Love Plane last year when he asked Ms Saliba to enter the flight deck – where he then proposed to her.

That time too, he had planned the route around Malta and Sicily carefully to create a perfect heart-shaped flight path.

Air Malta congratulated the couple for their extraordinary initiative and wished them a happy married life together. They will join around 25 married couples who are also Air Malta staff members.
