Air Malta said today that it will be operating a daily service to Tripoli.
The current schedule of five flights per week will be increased to six as from April 18 when a flight on Wednesdays will be added. A Friday service will be launched on May 4.
The announcement was made two days after the European Commission said Libyan airlines were banned from EU airports because of safety concerns.
Air Malta CEO Peter Davies said that since the re-start of services to Tripoli on November 28, Air Malta had registered a steady increase in passenger
demand. This summer it expects to carry around 30,000 passengers to/from Tripoli.
"The increase in flights between Libya and Malta is another important step in our efforts tocontinue facilitating travel between the two countries and mainland Europe. Our flights from Tripoli are operating at times that facilitate onward flight connections with other Air Malta services operating to Europe", added Mr Davies.
Air Malta added that it is also finalising plans to re-start operations to Benghazi. An announcement will be made in due course.
