Air Malta warned the GWU today that its declaration of an industrial dispute did not fall within the definitions of the law and it held it responsible for any consequences which its actions may have.

In a judicial protest this morning, the airline noted that the union had declared an industrial dispute because no job guarantees had been given.

The airline said it could never give such guarantees. The restructuring process was dictated by the company's financial position, and it was being carried out according to the duties and obligations laid down by law.

Air Malta reserved the right to sue the GWU for damages and called on the union not to take actions which would further weaken the company.
