Air Malta on Monday operated a special charter flight to assist in the evacuation of foreign nationals from Cairo.
The airline said the flight was organised following a request from a private company to evacuate its expatriate employees from Egypt.
The airline informed the Maltese Embassy in Cairo about the flight in case they had any request from Maltese nationals stranded in Cairo wanting to return to Malta.
Air Malta said it arranged the flight at very short notice despite challenging communication flows with the Egyptian authorities and Cairo airport.
The airline took all the necessary measures to safeguard the safety and interest of the aircraft, its crew and passengers in these delicate circumstances.
Air Malta does not operate regular flights to Egypt.
