Air Malta's Chief Financial Officer, Alfred Lupi, is no longer working for the company, informed sources said today.

His departure is the second among the senior management following the departure last month of the chief operating officer, Brock Friesen, who is officially on long leave.

Officially, an Air Malta spokesman said Mr Lupi was still on the company books and was considered to be out on sick leave.

Mr Lupi joined Air Malta in 1999 and in the past also served as a director of the Central Bank of Malta.

Most of the day-to-day management of the company is currently in the hands of consultants roped in to draw up a rescue plan for the loss-making airline.

A draft of the plan has to be submitted to the EU next month, with the final plan due to be handed in by May.
