Air Malta has launched free mobile phone check-in for all its flights out of Malta International Airport.
Passengers travelling with or without baggage can now check-in and select their seat onboard Air Malta flights through their internet-enabled mobile phones.
Air Malta passengers can login on www.mobile-airmalta.com from their phone as early as 23 hours up to two hours prior the scheduled departure time. They can check in for their flight by entering their name and flight number and have their bar-coded boarding pass delivered to their mobile phone in an image format. Apart from being able to choose their seat on board the aircraft, passengers can go through the airport formalities prior to entering the restricted area and at the departure gates simply by displaying the boarding card image on their mobile phone.
Speaking about this service Joe Cappello, Air Malta’s chief executive, said, “Following the encouraging feedback and take-up of check-in through our web portal launched last year, we went a step further and are now are offering check-in facilities through mobile phones.
“Only a few airlines in the world have started to use this technology and we are excited to be one of the first. With the introduction of these new facilities and investment in new technologies we are reaffirming our commitment to our passengers by offering them an even easier service at the airport.
“We are not only simplifying the check-in process, but also, through reducing paper, we are helping our environment,” he added.
Passengers carrying luggage can also make use of mobile check-in but they must proceed to the drop-off web check-in counter and check in their luggage on arrival at the airport.
The airline intends to expand this service to incoming flights at selected airports in the near future.
The service is free.
