A Moscow-bound Air Malta flight was forced to turn back late on Friday night after developing a technical fault.

KM560 flying to Sheremetyevo International Airport reported a technical problem just a few minutes after taking off, according to the Horizon site.

According to flight tracker site Flight Radar 24, the aircraft was spotted circling the island to burn off fuel to reduce aircraft weight before it landed safely back.

No incident was reported on board the Airbus A-320.

The flight was later operated by another aircraft.
