The Opposition spokesman for home affairs, Jason Azzopardi, has queried how Air Malta, Customs and the Civil Aviation Department are not represented in the newly constituted Aviation Security Committee.

Instead, he pointed out, the committee members include the head of security of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The composition of the new committee was announced in the Government Gazette of October 25.

The committee is chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs and National Security while the permanent secretary at the ministry is the deputy chairman.

The members are the commanders of the AFM and the police (ex-officio) along with Deputy Police Commissioner Joe Cachia, Assistant Police Commissioner Raymond Zammit, the head of security, fire and rescue services at MIA Patrick Cuschieri, the head of security at the ministry Joe Camilleri and Michael Cassar, head of the Malta Security Service.
