An Air Malta plane aborted landing at Munch airport this morning after the pilot reported seeing another aircraft on the runway, too close for comfort.

The incident happened at about 11am.

"Our aircraft was about to touch down when it suddenly pulled up as there was another plane on the runway. Probably quite a good job by the pilot as we were literally a few metres from touching down," a passenger reported.

The aircraft went around and later landed safely.

Air Malta confirmed the incident, saying there was no danger to aircraft and crew and the incident was not rare in busy airports.
