Agreement has been reached between the MUMN and the management of Mater Dei Hospital over the constant monitoring of patients.

The union complained earlier this week that a shortage of funds meant not enough carers were being provided to provide constant monitoring of a number of patients, about 20, as requested by doctors, because such patients were in a critical condition, could harm themselves, or suffered dementia.

The union said that as from Monday, a number of carers will be deployed in Mater Dei specifically for constant watches.

It was also agreed that a pool of carers would be formed and its members would be increased according to demand.
