An agreement has been reached between the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses and the Health Ministry on the ECG technicians at the primary health department.

The MUMN last month ordered a strike after a number of ECG technicians who had requested a transfer to Mater Dei Hospital were overlooked in favour of new recruits.

As a result, routine electrocardiograms, painless scans which record the heart’s electrical activity and are vital in monitoring several medical conditions, were not being held unless urgent.

The agreement guarantees that the service of ECG technicians in primary health will be given on rotation.
