An article that appeared on this newspaper last month reported that a group of people intend boosting killifish numbers at Il-Magħluq marshland, in Marsascala. I wish them success since I admire those who make an effort to save what’s left of our island and its surroundings.
Research I made shows that most killifish are peaceful and get along well in their community. However, males can be aggressive towards each other, so much so that most establishedbreeders recommend never to have male killifish together.
The article says the plan is to boost the number of killifish to 500, hence, I am sure the killifish (male) will be separated in different tanks to avoid aggressive behaviour.
They are not schooling fish but they do best in groups. The best food for them would be brine, shrimp, daphnia and so on.
