It is getting really bizarre and frustrating to live in this small island. Congestion is everywhere; too many trees are being cut down; the number of one-way roads is increasing in every town and village; the parking space available is decreasing in every town and village; and we are narrowing our last few wide roads, hiding behind the excuse of German consultancy!

And this is happening because the population is increasing all the time; the number of jeeps, land rovers, trucks and big vehicles is increasing; and the number of cars is increasing - the latest figure being that of 6,000 new cars every year.

With anguish and frustration, we are now witnessing the narrowing of Qaliet Road in Marsascala, which takes a huge volume of traffic every day. As cars tend to park on both sides of the road, the narrowing will make it dangerous. The reason behind this is to make an unduly wide pavement for people to walk on.

This spacious road will now be lost forever, to make way for exaggerated and wide pedestrian kerbs with slabs of concrete. It would be better to take care of some roads which are in a primitive state in Marsascala and start planning the construction of new roads which are in a mess in this part of the country.
