Having raised over €400,000 in a fundraising telethon last week, now it’s time for ALS Malta to let down its hair and boogie.

A massive concert featuring some of Malta’s biggest names in music is scheduled for tonight, as part of the first edition of ALS May Awareness month.

Red Electrick will headline the Beat it May ALS concert, along with with Maltese Eurovision winners Firelight and Amber, Planet Seed, and a huge party to follow by DJ Ziggy, supported by Mulholland.

The event will be held at the Aria Complex, San Gwann, and will begin at 8.15pm. All Tickets are available online, by calling 79299420, or from various outlets including Porthuges, Antonio’s Barber Shop, Brown’s Pharmacy - Qormi, Remax Excellence – Preluna, Rainbow Stationery, Times Gone By, and Ty’s Bar – Siggiewi.

All proceeds will be donated to ALS Malta.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or motor neurone disease, is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. As the disease progresses, the body’s motor neurones stop sending signals to the muscles until the muscles start to die, leading to partial paralysis and eventually a full paraplegic state.

There is currently no cure or effective treatment for ALS and most patients live just two to five years after their first signs of disease.

Bjorn Formosa, the man who founded ALS Malta, stunned Xarabank’s audience last week when he announced that he was donating €100,000 of his own money to ALS Malta. The money raised will be spent on equipment for ALS patients, as well as be put towards more research into finding a cure for the condition.
