There seems to be a sigh of relief at the Libya-EU agreement regarding the illegal dumping of Africans in Europe but especially the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Sicily used as stepping stones to mainland Europe.

This is all well and good, but it seems to me that once the Libyan door is closed there will be other routes which can be exploited if one is determined enough to get out of Africa come hell or high water.

Libya has got Egypt on its right and Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco to its left. All these countries have access to the Mediterranean, just like Libya, if not better access. So I can envisage them queuing up to sign deals with the EU asking for billions of euro just to stop the exodus from the North African coastline. Well, what’s good for the goose...
