African journalists in Malta are setting up a new non-governmental organisation - Media Association Malta (AMAM) - to use their professional skills to help migrants learn about living in Malta and effective integration.

The NGO, being launched on Tuesday, will also act as a professional organisation for African journalists in Malta.

Its first project - Somali Media Malta - is supported by EEA funding through SOS Malta and the US Embassy. AMAM are renting office space in Hamrun for the project.

Somali Media Malta will broadcast news and information to migrants in Malta in Somali and other languages to help integration, provide guidance about living in Malta and to generally update the migrant community using internet radio, social media and their website.

The name Voice of Migrants Radio “VOM Radio” has been chosen.
