A total €21,967.62 were collected by the Armed Forces of Malta’s C (Special Duties) Company who last weekend marched 14km from St Julian’s to Valletta, each with a 20kg backpack, to raise money for cancer foundation Puttinu Cares.

Following the march, a group of 26 soldiers – each having been sponsored €500 by a business – plunged into the cold water and swam across to Haywharf in Floriana.

The remainder carried on to Valletta, passing through Ħamrun and finishing in St George’s Square, some wearing tops with the names of companies that had given them a €50 sponsorship.

Throughout the walk, volunteers and soldiers from other squadrons collected donations from passersby.
