The final week of the MTBA National League at the Eden SuperBowl saw long-time Division One leaders Aercomms finally claiming the crown they had been chasing in vain for the last seven years.

Fina First's 12-in-a-row championship crowns was finally broken in the season's conclusive 'position round' when they were easily beaten 6-2 by Aercomms.

Third place was already guaranteed for Fina Excel who beat DAB Beer 8-0 to knock them down to fifth place from fourth.

Relegation was already a reality before the final week for bottom three Palatino Wines, Mizzi Organisation and BoV Lifelink.

Fina First came into the crucial positional match knowing they needed at least a 6-2 result in their favour to snatch the title at the last gasp. A draw would have been enough for Aercomms.

Their goal was quickly within reach as Aercomms thrashed Fina 818-690 in the opening game for a huge confidence booster.

Fina applied some changes in an attempt to recoup their losses but Aercomms were on a high and rode the wave in game two with another easy win (781-685)... the title was theirs.

Game three was merely a formality and was actually won by Fina First 707-654 - 6-2 the final match result. Kenneth Arpa bowled a 581 series for the new champions.

The outcome of the match between Fina Excel and DAB Beer could not alter Excel's third position, but still they came out looking for the win.

DAB took the low-scoring first game 710-682 before improving to win the second 784-723.

Excel showed no mercy as they rounded off the whitewash, winning game three 727-652, which meant DAB lost out on fourth place.

This was claimed by Maltacom KSSK who beat sixth-placed Royal Shock 6-2.

The new MTBA National Leagues will start in mid-July after a short break.
