Aercomms have won all seven Honda League matches so far, last week's 8-0 result against Abandoned being their third consecutive clean sheet.

Now nine points clear at the top, theirs is the most credible challenge yet to the 13-season long domination of Fina First who beat Mizzi Organisation 6-2 to stay second.

Fina Excel achieved the highest team series of the week (2,431 pins) as they tore apart Palatino to strengthen their third position, just one point behind the champions.

Aercomms are flying high, their deserved headway well heralded by a 'points won' rate of almost 93 per cent.

Aercomms managed to lure away Abandoned's star player, Kenneth Arpa, prior to the start of the season, and they used their new 'secret weapon' to full effect.

Arpa opened with a brilliant 265 in game one, which went in his team's favour 806-762. Game two was rather scrappy but still it was Aercomms who prevailed 707-672 before easily taking the third 772-719 to be sure of all eight points. Arpa completed a 620 set.

Depleted Fina team

Fina First were shocked by an early snag against Mizzi Org., the latter snatching game one 740-773.

The Fina side were not at full strength, key players Sue Abela and Leli Baldacchino missing from the line-up. They were all too aware of Aercomms' progress and also that of Fina Excel, and knew that defeat or a draw could see them dropping to third place.

This spurred them on to a solid display, giving them the series points by a healthy 136 pins. Dennis Mercieca rolled a 663 series for Fina First.

Fina Excel claimed the series of the week in their 8-0 crushing of Palatino, taking 2,431 pins, helped by a fantastic 892 total in game two.

National champion Doris Camilleri bowled a 692 for Excel.

Globalair Travel moved up to sixth place by beating bottom side BoV Lifelink 8-0, the latter appearing resigned to relegation even at this early stage of the campaign.

The scoreline was not indicative of the match though as BoV could have come away with a share of the spoils had luck been on their side.

DAB Beer were 6-2 winners at the expense of Maltacom KSSK, the former leapfrogging the losing side to go fourth, as Royal Shock and Ramis produced the only 4-4 draw of the week at the Eden Century.

Standings (week seven): Aercomms 52; Fina First 43; Fina Excel 42; DAB Beer 37; Maltacom KSSK 34; Globalair Travel, Royal Shock 26; Palatino 22; Ramis 20; Abandoned 17; Mizzi Organisation 13; BoV Lifelink 4.

Bowlers of the Week: Dennis Mercieca (663, Fina First); Doris Camilleri (692, Fina Excel).
