FOI administration manager John B. Scicluna represented Malta at a recent meeting of the employer members of the Advisory Committee on Safety and Health at Work (ACSH) held in Luxembourg on March 8.

In the morning, the meeting took note of the calendar of meetings; received reports from Commission officials and discussed the progress of the bureau and current ACSH working parties covering Vibrations, Noise, Chemicals, Work at Height, Hospitals, the Risk Observatory and Mining and Extractive Industries; and discussed the next EU/US conference on the topic.

In the afternoon, the meeting discussed a number of other items, including the ACSH seminar on Occupational Exposure Level setting on carcinogens; the possible methodologies to evaluate the OSH community strategy 2002-2006 on the basis of input from the EC; preparation for a seminar to evaluate the OSH community strategy 2002-2006 and the implementation of OSH directives; the creation of a new working party on the new OSH community strategy 2007-2011; the creation of the working party to identify areas in which further practical tools are needed and to recommend a methodology for the conception of practical guides; the creation of the working party on the rationalisation of implementation reports; and the possible extension of the mandate of the hospitals working party.
