More than 76 per cent of students sitting for advanced and 70.6 per cent of those sitting for intermediate level matriculation examinations obtained a pass mark, the Education Ministry said.
It said that the average was the same as last year, with a slight improvement in intermediate results.
There were this year 10,188 examinations in 31 subjects at intermediate level and 6,183 exams in 30 at advanced level.
In the benchmarking exercise which has replaced the Junior Lyceum and common entrance examinations, for the transition from primary to secondary education, an average mark of 78 was obtained in Maltese, 64 in English and 77 in mathematics.
