The Malta Transport Authority in a statement referred to the recent arraignment of a driving instructor who was charged in court with defrauding several people by staging a driving exam.

It said that after receiving a complaint by a driving test candidate, it had immediately referred the matter for police investigation and withdrew the instructor’s tag and learning plates on June 15.

The authority stressed that all driving tests commence outside the Driver Testing Centre in Hornworks Ditch, Floriana and must be carried out by a licensed ADT driving examiner. ADT driving examiners are required to wear an ADT identification tag at all times. The identification tag has an orange background and a dark blue lanyard bearing the ADT logo. Details on the tag include the designation (driving examiner), the Unit (Licensing and Testing – LTD), the expiry date and the name of the official at the bottom of the tag.

Should a driving test candidate have any doubts or suspicions about the legitimacy of a Driving Examiner he / she should immediately report this to the Malta Transport Authority Freephone 80072309 (and not the previous number given by the ADT). All reports are dealt with in strict confidence, the authority said.
