Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has declared that he sees no need for the setting up of a Wildlife Crime Unit within the police force.

He was replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Leo Brincat, who said the setting up of the new unit had been suggested by the FKNK and BirdLife.

The minister said that 24 officers were currently serving in the police Administrative Law Enforcement section. From April 23, that number was temporarily reinforced by another 25 policemen.

Therefore, Dr Mifsud Bonnici said, he did not see the need to set up another section within the police corps.
