A drug addict was placed on probation for two years after confessing to stealing €334 from his mother.

Matthew Falzon, 30, of Żabbar, took the cash to fund his addiction.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke was told Mr Falzon was willing to do whatever it took to kick the habit. He had also cooperated with the police.

His mother had asked the court to issue a protection order because she felt threatened but she then withdrew the request, saying it was no longer needed.

The court warned Mr Falzon he was being given a chance to kick the habit and that there would be serious consequences if he failed to observe the conditions of his probation order.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted.
