The President’s Kitchen Garden has undergone a major refurbishment over the past few months, and now features a multi-sensory garden with play panels for children with special needs.

The gardens boast new and improved gym equipment, some of which can also be used by wheelchair-user persons, an inclusive merry-go-round, additional swings and an upgraded turf area.

Through this refurbishment, the President’s Kitchen Garden is doing its part in reaching the international commitment of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals.

In particular, goal 11 and target 11.7 state that by 2030, all signatories of the SDGs have to provide universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible, green and public spaces, particularly for women and children, older people and people with disabilities.

The Kitchen Garden at San Anton Palace was opened to the public in 2011 following extensive rehabilitation.

Spread over nine tumoli, the garden has supplied the palace with vegetables and fruit since the time of the knights.

Profits from sales from the cafeteria in the gardens will go towards the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.

The gardens, accessible from opposite the rear entrance of San Anton Palace – near Villa Bologna – are open daily.
