Alternattiva Demokratika said today that it had noted a press statement issued by Birdlife, Din l-Art Helwa, Nature Trust and Ramblers in which they invited the Government to end spring hunting without having to face a referendum with the specific aim to abolish spring hunting.

Carmel Cacopardo AD Deputy Chairman and spokesman on sustainable development and home affairs said that everyone was aware that the eNGOs wish was not possible.

"The encouragement of spring hunting was an important element in the electoral platform of both the PN and the PL in the March 2013 general elections. No one is expecting that either the PN or the PL will do a colossal U-turn," he said.

"AD is delighted that so far three environmental NGOs have expressed the desire to join the Coalition Against Spring Hunting with the specific objective to plot the way forward for the abrogative referendum. The invitation to join the Coalition is still open to all. The Coalition will be activated shortly by AD together with the eNGOs determined to see spring hunting abolished once and for all."
