Alternattiva Demokratika said today that the Nationalist and Labour parties were being irresponsible in the way they are treating the divorce issue. Michael Briguglio, AD Chairman, said the Nationalist Party was acting like a confessional party stuck in the middle ages, showing no sensitivity to the thousands of people who would like to reconstitute their family life.
Labour, on the other hand, was confirming that it had no direction at all through its 'catch all' politics.
"Labour is acting like a calculator and not like a party with principles. By opting so far not to take a position of principle the PN and Labour are acting out of convenience bringing to the fore once more the politics of electoral calculators."
Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, AD spokeman for Civil Rights, added: "Alternattiva Demokratika is the only party with a clear position on divorce, and together with progressive elements of society and the press, we urge those in favour of the introduction of this basic civil right to stand up and be counted".
