The outcome of the general election proved how right Alternattiva Demokratika was not to join the Forza Nazzjonali coalition, which essentially meant assimilation by the Nationalist Party, the deputy chairman of Alternattiva Demokratika, Carmel Caccopardo, argued this afternoon.

In comments in the counting hall he said the coalition had done nothing to improve the PN prospects, and the contrary was possibly the case.

He estimated that Alternattiva got 3,000 votes in this election, about 1% of the total.

In 2013 it got 5,500.

Salvu Mallia: People chose corruption

Among other reactions, PN candidate Salvu Mallia, who is unlikely to get elected, said he was fed up of hearing ‘bullshit’ on Net TV.

“Let’s just say that the people chose corruption, that is the truth,” he said on a Facebook post.

He said the result, unfortunately, proved his right in everything he had said. This, he said, was a failure of 2,000 years of Christianity.

He said he was proud to have done his duty and voted against corruption.

Marlene Farrugia: We will fight on

Marlene Farrugia said her Democratic Party would respect the result, but would continue to fight on against corruption in the government.

“We believe in the truth and will continue to fight in the interests of the country,” she said on Facebook.

David Thake: Election outcome does not make wrong right

Nationalist candidate David Thake said the people have taken their decision, but this did not make wrong right.

"It means that people have chosen to remain on the path carved by Joseph Muscat," he wrote.
