Alternattiva Demokratika leader Harry Vassallo today expressed confidence that his party would have candidates elected to Parliament on Saturday.

Asked following a walkabout in Valletta how many candidates he expected to see elected, Dr Vassallo said
“as many as the Maltese people give us – the more the better”. He continued that his party, although small, had worked a lot for almost a year, meeting a lot of people, and he did not think the noise of the electoral campaign had changed anything.

Dr Vassallo said having a third party in the House would open a new era in modern Maltese politics, leading to more discipline in the country and a Broadcasting Authority which represented all parties.

“A third party in Parliament would bring a stable and strong government. We can remove the stagnation from Maltese politics,” he said.

Dr Vassallo said the problem in Maltese politics lay in the fact that due to electoral interests the two big parties did not address a number of issues, including rent laws, divorce and public transport.
