Alternattiva Demokratika has deplored the fact that Parliament had not yet discussed the voting method of Malta's possible sixth seat in the European Parliament.

AD spokesman on democracy, Stephen Cachia said it was unacceptable that less than 13 weeks from the elections Parliament had not yet clearly specified the method of election for the sixth seat, which would possibly be available in October after the Irish referendum.

AD reiterated that the sixth MEP should be elected on the basis of the same system as that of electing the first five MEPs, according to the single transferable vote system. "It is of utmost importance this is confirmed before the election date and that it will be the Maltese and Gozitan people who decide the sixth MEP elected, and nobody else."

Mr Cachia concluded that in order to reflect the people's will, AD believed that on June 6 the quota for election should be based on six candidates.
