Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Arnold Cassola yesterday called on Air Malta to ensure that people abroad who had the right to vote would not encounter any problems.

Prof. Cassola said people called him to complain that they were finding it hard to get through to Air Malta to make the necessary arrangements to come and vote in the European Parliament elections on June 6.

He picked on a statement the Prime Minister made during a meeting with hunters a few days ago during which he warned them that there was a real possibility that the sixth seat would go to AD. Prof. Cassola condemned what he termed as a scare-mongering tactic but welcomed Lawrence Gonzi's admission that the sixth seat could go to AD.

"Is the Prime Minister trying to scare people from voting for the party that wants to work in favour of clean air? Is Gonzi trying to scare people from voting for higher environmental and public health standards?"

Voter abstention in the European Parliament election is also cause for concern for AD with only 13 days to go. Prof. Cassola appealed to those who did not plan to vote in the forthcoming election to send a clear message by voting for the Green party. He insisted that by not voting people would not change anything.

"The clearest and strongest message is to go out and vote and to vote for Alternattiva Demokratika. This will mean that after 47 years of a suffocating duopoly, a clear and credible voice will be elected in a nationwide election," he said.

He also urged voters to choose the best people from all parties.
