Alternattiva Demokratika has called for a reconsideration of Malta's decision to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Party chairman Arnold Cassola, said: "We learn from the international press that Mauritius, after having boycotted the 2013 Sri Lanka meeting together with India and Canada, has now refused to host the 2015 meeting because of the abominable human rights record of Sri Lanka. Can Prime Minister Muscat please inform the Maltese citizens about the Maltese government's attitude to these serious accusations of human rights violations on the part of the Sri Lankan government?"

Carmel Cacopardo, AD Deputy Chairman, added that Malta’s offer to host the 2015 CHOGM meeting can be interpreted, in the context, as condoning the abuse of human rights in Sri Lanka. AD, concluded Carmel Cacopardo, considers it appropriate to have the invitation reconsidered and withdrawn in solidarity with Sri Lanka’s human rights victims.
