Alternattiva Demokratika said this morning that its activist David Camilleri was insulted and assaulted in Nadur yesterday night by two young hunters from Qala.

AD said Mr Camilleri, who contested the last General Elections on its behalf, was punched in the stomach by one of the two youngsters. When he tried to defend himself, the second youngster pounced on to him and the both proceeded to beat him up.

He was treated for slight injuries at Gozo General Hospital. A report has been lodged with the police in Nadur.

Meanwhile BBC presenter Chris Packham, who is currently doing documentaries about bird slaughter in Malta, was questioned by the police for five hours. He was not arrested.

AD expressed solidarity with Mr Camilleri and Mr Packham who, it said, fell victims to intolerance and violence in different circumstances.

"Everybody should be allowed to express freely their opinion for or against spring hunting, but threats and intolerant behaviour are simply not on. The quicker one learns this, the better," it said.
