Various comments were made regarding the article 2,500 Outside Development Zone Permits Issued In Two Years: FAA Calls For Review Of Recent Mepa Permits (timesofmalta.com, March 24).

Perhaps people like Victor Laiviera should get their facts straight and read the papers more often. As has already been stated by Astrid Vella on February 25 in a letter to The Times, the FAA were not in existence when the sanctioning proposals dealing with the Dwejra boathouses were made in 2005. In fact, that specific letter was aimed directly at Mr Laiviera in regard to an earlier attack by him on the FAA.

As already stated, the FAA attended more than one Mepa hearing on the subject of the sanctioning of the Dwejra boathouses and voiced strong disapproval with regard to this sanctioning. Due to the strong representations made by the FAA, certain abusive structures or eyesores at Dwejra are now to be eliminated.

I am not a member of the FAA. I am a tourist who lives in N. Ireland. However, I have the greatest respect for everyone connected with the FAA because, unlike a lot of people who sit pretty and moan about the state of their country, these people stand up and do something about it.

It should be further remembered that the FAA is a voluntary organisation run by people who give up their time for free in order to try and protect the environment Mr Laiviera professes to care so much about.

I wonder what action did Mr Laiviera take to help his beloved Dwejra when the sanctioning proposals were made in 2005, before the FAA even existed.
