What a weekend of cricket it was, a bonanza one may say, as the Summer League continued with two fixtures at Marsa on Saturday followed up by the first-ever women’s match between Alligators and Falcons on Sunday.

Krishna and Melita faced each other in the opening Division One match.

Frank Spiteri and Bikram Arora opened the batting for Krishna. Arora was first to go, one run. Andy Lenard scored 39 from 32 balls, including one massive 6 and three 4s. Spiteri was bowled playing on to his stumps. He had scored 19 runs.

Runs then dried up for the Krishna team. A couple of batsmen scored ducks, John Grima three, Jim Heasman six and Simon Mayeeri two.

Kevin Krishna held his own, however, and remained unbeaten with 11 runs. Adam Krishna added four and Javed Shah two and the Krishna team totalled 102 runs.

For Melita, Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with three.

In reply, Melita had a shaky start, losing Paul Kaye for a duck, Greg Symons for 11 runs, David Eynon for nine and Joy Ghoseroy for two. However, Andy Naudi was again in fine form and scored 42 from 30 balls. Tim Wheeler (18) and Derek Ali (12) made sure that their team took the honours on the day.

Melita gained eight points for their win. They are now six points clear of nearest rivals Marsa.

Krishna were again in action in the other Division One match, this time against Overseas who batted first and were bowled out for 54 runs.

Sean Duffy top-scored for his team with 15 runs.

Steve Cole was the main wicket taker with three for Krishna. He was again in the action with the bat in a match-winning partnership with Sam Aquilina (25 runs each).

Standings (after five matches Melita 39 points; Marsa 33; Krishna 21; Overseas 3.
