The Labour Party will do its utmost from now on to bring about the change that the country is clamouring for, acting MLP leader Charles Mangion yesterday said.

Many people were now realising that the Nationalists had taken them for a ride and failed to fulfil their promises, Dr Mangion told supporters during a social activity in Qawra.

The country is being run by an "incompetent" Government, and it has been in power way beyond its expiry date.

Families were finding it tough to keep up with the quality of life they were used to in the past and prices in Malta were spiralling out of control, Dr Mangion said. Official EU statistics showed that the purchasing power of families in Malta was among the lowest in the Union.

After the coming election, he said, a Labour Government would put the economy back on track to ensure it would grow at the rate of four to six per cent.

Among other initiatives, a Labour Government would eliminate income tax from overtime, target a tourism figure of 1.6 million tourists, and continue investing in the educational system.
