Manuel Cachia, 31 of Marascala , was this morning acquitted  of being an accomplice in a supermarket hold-up in 2006, after a court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Two hooded men armed with sawn-off shotguns had carried out the hold-up in June 2006, stealing Lm100 in cash and some phone cards.

The phone cards were found by the police in possession of one of two persons who were arrested, but he claimed to have bought the phonecards from the supermarket.
