Ronald Apap, 39 of St Paul's Bay, was today accused of the attempted murder of his neighbour following an argument on Sunday. He pleaded not guilty.

Mr Apap allegedly hit Joseph Calleja in the face and neck with an axe in an argument over a water tank.

He later told the police that he was defending himself after he was attacked by Mr Calleja, who, he alleged, was wielding a knife.

Mr Apap was also accused of relapsing.

Magistrate Silvio Meli remanded him in custody.
